This one to go with my up and coming Pumpkin Party in Oct. I know it is early but I really wanted to have some fun putting out these pumpkins.

For those that don't know I have a Pumpkin Party once a year and sell glass pumpkins. Last year I had about 500 of them for sale and over 300 people came to the Pumpkin Party at Strong Street Studio. They range from 15 bucks all the way up to around 150 for the most expensive. This year, as a fun little project and hopefully a way to draw customers as well, I am going to be putting out a pumpking every now and then. The first one was placed today at BagelHeads at the base of the bridge while I ate breakfast. I also have a new card that I am placing with them so people know they are not stealing things...it was a worry some people had that contacted me about picking up the glass. So that is taken care of.

Corky took a picture of the pumpkin with his Iphone which I will place up here as soon as he sends it to me. Ryan and I made some spun out bowls for fun up at the Fire River Studio in Sacramento. One of the bowl was way way way to thin to ship back to Florida so we put in at the center of a water fountian. In a spot you would have to get wet to get it.

Well Ryan went by to check on it. Seeing that it was not there he looked to see if it had fallen or broke. Which would have sucked now that I think about it. Anyway, as he pulled up close to the fountain he noticed wet foot prints on the parking lot leading away from the fountian. It seems he had just missed who ever got up in the fountian to get it.

Hope you enjoy the bowl! It took me putting out 18 pieces of glass to finally get someone to come back and post. What a winner #18 is, he not only made it as #1 to get a post back, but also #2. No telling where he will be in a month. If either of you guys have a picture of #18 I would like one. I can't seem to find the picture I took before I put him out in the wild.

Also, I have about 10 more pieces that will go out sometime this week! I am going to have some custom cards made up to place with them. It seems that what I put on paper to go with #18 is the magic way to get a result! Thank you guys for taking the time to post about it. I going to add them to the front page below:

lbguttery said...
Hi there! Not sure if this is where you want me to post, but I have in my possession #18. My hubby and I picked it up at Bagelheads while we were in town visiting. It has come back to Birmingham, AL with us. I am going to place it somewhere on campus here at the University of Montevallo where I am attending to grad school. I hope it finds a new path soon. Great fun! They are on the new camera and it crashed the computer when we loaded the drivers. I will give it some time this weekend to get them installed correctly.

Anyway, one in Alabama now. Nice little bowl. On on the base in Florida(nas) cup, and one downtown by the bar scene (right next to Intermissions). Just for everyones knowledge I will be putting a lot of them in and around Intermissions, we are there every Friday so keep an eye out.

I have a seriously huge vase I am going to put out soon somewhere. I am also making crazy amounts of marbles with are my new favorite thing to leave around. So if anyone found them and came here please post and let us know when you found them. By the way we don't want them back, they are yours to keep. I had a conversation with someone that said "Maybe people are scared to post because they think you will want them back."... This is not true! They are yours to keep, or even if you want put them back out and let someone else find them. I think I am going to have stickers printed up to put on the glass to better explain what I am doing. Itching the address on the bottom of the glass can be hard to read and might be one of the reasons people are not posting here that they found them.

Scott. .

The Glass Guys - Part #2

Ok so I have the day off and I am having fun with this. I have gone all out and put out count them 4 pieces today...on top of the other two. That means that we have 6 pieces out in Pensacola right now just waiting to be plucked. Here is a quick look at all of them on my work bench at the house.

Starting from left to right we have a vase that is pink with colbalt blue frit. It also has some dicro glass mixed in that gives it some strange colors. aIt is #6 and was placed in the same intersection in Aragon as #3. #3 was long gone by the way...I wonder who got it. Anyway..the brown is #4 and it is Amber and Sand powder with and optic twist. Next is #7 which is a red strawberry powder on top of a enamel white powder. The Red strawberry was contaminated from the factory and has little black metal scraps in it which gave the glass little black specks. Made it really look like a strawberry as irony would have it. The last one is #5 which is colbat blue with a opal red lip wrap...would be a great little flower vase.

#5 was droped off a bayview park on the end of the boat ramp. I figure the next boat that comes in will find it. We will just have to see.

As you can see above it is a great day today. Go day to be out getting out and about. Lets move onto #4!I put #4 which is brown and sand colored piece in a really cool spot. I went to seville park which hosts the Greater Gulf Coasts Arts Festival. I figured this would be a cool spot to hide one, then I found the perfect spot.

Can you see it? It is right in the wood statues hands! I think it will be pretty cool when someone stumbles across it. Plus it is a pretty cool bowl.

One to #7 which I put in a spot I don't think anyone is going to find for at least a week. I also hope the train does not bump it off of it's perch. Here is the walk up to it.

I really wonder how long this one will stay up there I drive by it on my way to work so I will be able to check on it every morning. Anyone want to lay bets?

Ok that is it for today boys and girls. I am going to go get a couple pieces to drop off at the concert in Alabama and one for the Atlanta trip this weekend.

Cheers,

The Glass Guy #3 (aka Scott)

The Glass Guys!

Today I got a call from my friend Corkchop and his nephew Shortchop to go eat some good stuff at Bagelheads. I figured it was a perfect time to do some more "IFTG" stuff. Plus it would be nice to have someone to do it with. Cork and Short got into it and so we picked up two pieces from the first year that I had been blowing glass. I am now in my 3rd year of blowing glass and work mostly on specific things that people now want to buy so I don't have a lot of new stuff hanging around. This is older stock that I really just wanted to have fun with and get out into the world instead of hanging out in my garage in a box. I hope the people that find this enjoy them and the unique way in which the glass makes it into their lives. Ok enough about why and how, lets get to where and when!

This will be the 2nd and 3rd piece I have done. I love the fact that I now have a couple a team members that will not only be putting them around the local area but also in remote locations as they travel. Short and Cork are going skiing soon and will be putting one on the slop at Winter Park Co. How much fun is that going to be, I will be putting one in Alabama, Georgia, and NYC very soon as well. Anyway...#2 piece was I would have to guess about the 20th piece of glass I ever made and I have held onto it for the better part of 3 years. Sorry about the picture being sideways...I did not spin it in photoshop. You get what it looks like anyway.I picked the area around the park that honors the soldiers of wars past seeing how it is V-day tomorrow.

You know I hope someone comes to think about someone they lost and finds this piece. Then takes it home and has a little reminder that people do think about the sacrifice that our young men and women make everyday.

The second one that we did today and the 3rd one over all I made about 2 1/2 years ago when I was seeing how different colors would go together. It is cobalt blue and sunburst yellow. I figured it would kind of turn green in the middle, it also has what is called by me as a jewel swirl. It is made by using a...ahh nevermind that would take forever to explain. If you find this piece post in the comments and I will give you a detailed blow by blow on the way it is made. I did however get the shape down the way that I wanted when I made the piece and I had it on my living room table for about a year before I retired it to the garage. This was a nice, thick, vase that would look great on someones table. This time I put a card inside the piece with the website not only on the card but on the piece as well. I had to write on the back of one from bagelheads but I don't think they will mind. I hope if someone finds these pieces they will drop by and tell me when they found them and what they are going to do with them.

I plan to take one up to Alabama and Georgia tomorrow. They will be my first out of town pieces in the IFTG project. I think they will have to be smaller pieces so that they don't get ruffed up in the trip but it should prove to be fun. I plan on doing a geo-cache piece, as well as a Hint piece in the near future. So if you have found one please check back later for the geo-cache(I will give gps location and you can find it) and the Hint piece(I will make a little game of hints on where it is).

Until next time.

Scott.

.

Piece #1 - Glow Float

Ok, my first piece of glass is away. Yesterday afternoon we launched a Glass Float/ornament into the Gulf of Mexico. This is the first official piece to be used for the "I Found This Glass" website. We hope whoever finds it will visit and leave a comment.

This piece was thrown out in the gulf around 5pm on an amazing Saturday afternoon. It might make it 10 feet down the beach or it might find its way to the next parking lot. Either way it seems to be sea worthy as it floated away.

I eventually hope to have other artists blog here about their own pieces. I also need to figure out a better way to number the pieces. It will be interesting to try and track them - who found them and where.

For now I will give a little history into the piece I just sent out to sea.

Glow Ball: Piece #1

Artist: Scott Novota

Created: April 13th, 2006 as an experimental piece of glow glass. The piece doesn't glow quite as bright as I though it would, but if you leave it out in the sun or under a light and then take it somewhere dark it does indeed glow.

This is the first in a group of glowing paperweights, floats, ornaments, and other stuff that I will be placing around Pensacola to have some fun with. If you happen to have found this please take the time to let us know where you found it, when you found it, and what you think about the piece.

This should be fun.

Scott.
.

Ok Here we go.

This blog is being made to track the exploits of myself and who ever else I can recruit into the "I found this glass" experiment. The whole purpose of this experiment is to see what kind of reaction we can get from the public.

What we are going to do is try and see if we can get people to pick up glass art in public that we leave in interesting places. I am going to try to take pictures of the glass befor we put it out, where we put it out, and if I get lucky a picture of the people that pick it up if we can hang out long enought catch them in the act of being the lucky ones to find the pieces. I think I am also going to get some stickers printed up to put on the pieces so that they can find this website and post about the piece that they have found and what they are going to do with it. Maybe they will go the extra step and place it back out in public and this will start over again. Maybe they will like the piece so much they want to keep it. We will just have to wait and see.

Right now there are two artist involved. Myself (The Glass Gnat), and Glassblowingman. Both of use have done this little project befor, but Glassblowingman does it with quite a bit more stuff than myself. I am either going to itch "iftg.blogspot.com" on the bottom of each piece or put stickers on them. Either way I hope the public comes back to this site. Let the games begin.

Gnat.
.
